The grade 3-8 students at Jacquet River School scored 25 skateboards, one longboard and the necessary safety equipment thanks to the Village of Belledune and Mayor Ronald Bourque. The skateboards are part of a program called Skate Pass which is being implemented in 500 schools throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, Singapore and the Dominican Republic. The program was developed by Eric Klassen, a former snowboarder who competed at the 1998 Winter X Games in the Snowboarder X and Slopstyle competitions. Please visit the website http://www.skatepass.com for more information about the Skate Pass Program. Our Mayor and Village have been mentioned on the website in their news section.
Mr. Glazier, the Physical Education teacher at the school, said the program will provide students with the ability to try alternative sports that they may choose to continue as a lifelong activity. The students are very excited to have the opportunity to try skateboarding.
We would like thank the Mayor and the Village of Belledune for making this activity possible at our school.
