owl: owlStarting Monday, February 3rd our school will be changing their schedule and time line to allow for an activity period for grades 3-8 at the end of the school day. The activity period is optional but students are encouraged to stay and participate in the various activities being offered. Students registered for activities earlier this week and some of the choices included; guitar club, skating, volleyball, stop motion video, zumba, school spirit, drama, band, choir and basketball to name a few.
The grade 4 students are making and selling 50 cent friendship pins. If you have one, you put it on your shoelace. The money raised will go to the S.P.C.A. in Dalhousie. Buy one for you and your friend to show off the spirit of Valentines Day and help this great cause. To buy one contact one of the grade 4 students. (Published by Emily P)
Imagine
building your own robot to help you with your work. Now combine that
with playing with Lego and you have students hooked. Grades 3 and 5
students at Jacquet River School are stating a new project in their
science classes called Lego Robotics. Not only do students get to build
a robot from Lego but they also get to program the robot themselves.
This experience is made possible by the generous donations from NBCC
Miramichi and Tim Horton’s.
Jacquet
River School is the first school in New Brunswick to be participating
We have a skating rink! Our rink is located in our school playground and will be ready for use after February 3, providing all goes well. The whole community will be able to use our skating rink after school starting at 3:00 PM. Members of school community are helping build and maintain our ice surface. Skating is a great way for people to get active during the winter months. (Published by Abby & Jillian)
The student reporters have received some suggestions and comments about our website. We are looking to improve the website and want to know what the students and parents would like to see. We have a suggestion/comment box at the school in the main office and we welcome your input. This week we received a number of suggestions and we like what you have to say. We will be adding more pictures from around the school, links to games, and information about activities to our site. (Published by Abby & Jillian)
The grade 3-8 students at Jacquet River School scored 25 skateboards, one longboard and the necessary safety equipment thanks to the Village of Belledune and Mayor Ronald Bourque. The skateboards are part of a program called Skate Pass which is being implemented in 500 schools throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, Singapore and the Dominican Republic.
This is the first in our series called “Feature-a-Teacher.” Every few weeks we will interview a staff member at Jacquet River School and showcase that information on our school website.
This month we have chosen two teachers, Michelle and Danielle Arsenault. They spend many after-school hours volunteering their time with the students of Jacquet River School.
Mme Michelle –
How long have you been teaching and or coaching?
